An Ode to communication:bulletred: -EN- (FR plus bas)
Hello everyone!
Once will not hurt, I will speak about a serious subject (well ... it is kind of the first time :)). First, those who think that art is only a way to feed the mind and does not help to fill the belly of the artist may as well stop reading at the end of this sentence.
And so, this article will talk about commission, or how to start with. Well, as I am about to write a pad, I give directly the summary here:COMMUNICATION! . And now I say welcome to the brave if they want to continue reading ;).
Preliminary : I am talking about private commission, which means there is no official contract. And...I am not an artist
First, a commission is a contract, a business transaction (for private or public purposes). This must never be forgotten. An artist is paid to do a work. The message that follows is seen from a purely factual point of view, supplier-customer relationship (aargh, but where is the imagination, the art in all of this?
Answered PrayersHello! I may only have a handful of watchers, but I rejoice in getting to write this for you all to read. May the Lord use this according to His good and perfect will.
For the past couple of months, I have been coming to the LORD in prayer with more energy than ever (the energy is fueled by His grace). I have lifted up my petitions to Him -- my worries and distresses, along with my praises and offerings of thanks -- and He has heard me.
What a simple and obvious concept; OF COURSE He has heard me. There is never a time when He does not hear me.
I believe that what I am trying to say is this: Please come to the LORD, humbly, and bring you petitions to Him. He is faithful, and He is your Father -- and fathers always sustain their children. Every distress, worry, anxiety, fear -- along with every praise and offering of thanks -- bring them to Him. Bow before Him; fall to your knees before Him and pray.

My thoughts on Ivan Brandon's 'name' postSo, Ivan Brandon put his thoughts up about the value of your 'name' in the industry being more valuable than quantifying the time vs. pay ratio scale. I've already written a similar response to this which for whatever reason my facebook app on my phone decided not to publish but instead deleted it.

But I'll try and regain the same ideas I wrote the first time. Ivan Brandon is a writer. I'm not saying writing is any less important a component to the creative process of creating comics, but it definitely takes less time and physical effort. If it took 3-4 weeks to write a comic script, and 3 weeks to pencil/ink a 22 page book, then the usual week it takes to color and letter most books, we'd never see anything come out. So I felt that this was more directed at artists.
It sounds noble to say that for 5 cents you should be doing the level of work that you would do on something you are paid $1 million for, but this
Exposure, Getting Better, & Having the ChopsEXPOSURE & GETTING BETTER AT WHAT YOU DO
I'm only going off of my own personal experiences talking about these few things. (And I'm not specifically talking about ONLY dA here.) So take it with as many grains of salt as you can.
I've recently been asked questions like "How do I get people to see my work?", "Why am I not receiving commission inquiries?", "Why isn't anyone following my work?", "What can I do to get better?". Often, and I answered it before, the answer is as simple as this:
Create.
Create, as in, DRAW. PAINT. RENDER. SCULPT. You have to do develop a tolerance (or the obvious definition: LOVE) for creating if you want exposure and to get better. You have to LOVE the drawing or illustration that you HATE how it came out in the end. You have to ask yourself after every piece, what could I have done to do that differently. And you have to do this frequently.

Custom Breaking Bad Figures

Last year I sculpted up a few portraits of Bryan Cranston as Walter White from my favorite show "Breaking Bad". I was finally able to put the finishing touches on 3 custom figures of Walt, all of which were given to the creators of the show this past week.

It's been a helluva lot of fun, and a tremendous thrill to get to meet the artists behind this terrific show that has been so inspiring to me. Kinder people you will not meet!

So here's a look at the finished custom figures. These were pieced together from various sources, using Hot Toys bodies, and clothes I found on ebay and then altered. The heads were all painted by some talented friends of mine, and they really brought Walt to life. It's been a lot of work to try and piece these together in my free time, but I really enjoyed doing it.
