WORK-IN-PROGRESS series: Old Indy by TrevorGrove WORK-IN-PROGRESS series: Old Indy by TrevorGrove
I'm trying to find all the rough stuff I can to continue this series, but I really don't have much. :) All of my insecurities were even worse in the old days, so I never showed much of the early stuff.

This is the Crystal Skull Indy in wax that I did with Sideshow...Every Indy project was a huge honor and a huge challenge to work on...To this day, I never sculpted him to my liking, and I hope to do something on my own some day to represent the character well....But unfortunately he's just insanely difficult to sculpt! And not only that, when you get the hat wrong, that also has an effect....and I never got the hats right (they change from movie to movie in subtle ways). I love sculpting Ford older, though....so much more fun than young Ford, which is just purely difficult.

Have you ever sculpted with Cx5(s)?

I sculpted wth Beane's earliest blends of it, before he sold it...It was too soft for me, but some people prefer that. TMS is the only wax I really love. That doesn't mean much, though, because everyone prefers different qualities. :)

I still say, this is a very, very, good portrait, Trev. The difficulties you overcame are what make it so.

I think that what makes Harrison Ford able to give so much life to the characters that he plays is what makes him such a difficult "life model" for any type of portrait. His face is never still when he is someone else. The character's thoughts and emotions take over his face and body language.

That's wonderful to hear, and thank you! Ford's face is great, and you hope to capture all that life he puts into the character. That's usually when you run into trouble, when you don't try to capture the emotions. Thanks again!!

This looks so cool; I love to see how it "came to life" (I very much understand the insecurities thing too though ;))

:) Awesome! Yeah, insecurities never go away, but it's probably good. I think it makes you strive more than if you're really confident.

For sure! I find it really hard to do projects I'm not passionate about... It's the worst when that happens!

Unluckily they don't get finished more quickly by being put off...

Sometimes even when i do dedicate myself fully to a project I don't like, it takes forever. :\ I'm always impressed by professional artists that can do any project, regardless of their interest in it. I wish I was a little more like that, but I prefer to love what I am doing.

Your attention to details is stunning. I'd say - throw all the insecurities out of the window right now, but I know how hard it is psychologically. So, instead, - please, do go on with your work. It's awesome.

:) Great to hear, and thank you! Yeah, insecurities in the beginning of a project aren't fun, but...they help. They make you push harder to be better. Thanks again!

the best thing about Ford is when he is animated, he always has that subtle movement that gives meaning to the whole scene, like that smirk... this is a pretty tense instead of playful likeness - I could see that last face in The Fugative

You're right! Great facial expressions. I think that's why he's so fun to put into art...it's just crazy how hard he is to capture!
