WORK-IN-PROGRESS series: Herman Munster

I was asked if I could show my process more, and I'm going to try to post old WIP shots of my stuff, if I have them. I don't have a lot of the really ugly stuff, to be honest. I find a lot of my process really ugly and unappealing, up until a point. Obviously, I understand why it's interesting and educational, because I love that stuff from other artists....but when it comes to my own work, it's just awful to look at. Sometimes I don't even photograph stuff until it's looking OK because I get so put off to my own stuff.

Here is Herman Munster's progress in wax. You can really see how ugly some of these start on the left....I'd do more clay roughs, but I haven't been able to strike a balance where the clay rough really helps the final piece the way I'd like it too. Clay roughs are typically done to capture gesture and form quickly, and I could certainly improve upon both, but every time I try it ends up being a waste of time and money, so I avoid it. I'll show some of my clay roughs in the next ones.
