Wellll, you know it's bad when you have to start digging through your folders scrambling to find something new to post. :) It's a shame, but almost everything I've done lately has to be kept secret for many more months. But, I did find I hadn't posted this on here, so some of you that haven't seen it can get a gander.

This was done years ago, at this point, prior to when I started seeking out work. I really loved the Sky Captain movie, simple as it is, and I figured I'd try to cut my teeth in sculpture with those characters. I only got as far as this and an unfinished Jude Law, but it was a great exercise in sculpture, and a time consuming challenge.

She was sculpted in 1/6 scale in Castilene wax, prior to when that stuff started getting mixed wrong. The gun in her holster is not sculpted by me, I just bought a 1/6 scale pistol that looked about right. Lazy, but I have no talent/skill/ nor patience for mechanical sculptures. :D God bless those who do! haha!

The top shots are a resin casting of the finished sculpture. Mike Allen over at Forbidden Zone [link] helped me get her cast up, thank you Mike! The bottom, fully painted shot, was done by Stephen Parke, a great artist [link]

So enjoy this ancient work! thanks for looking.

Ha! That's pretty darn funny. It was hard to get that released to people, as I ran into trouble with my first moldmaker. After sorting it out I had Mike Allen mold them up and sell them to folks. I actually never saw any of the returns on that piece, but I never minded, I just wanted to get it OUT to people that wanted one.

I love that you actually have one! :D Pretty funny. That was one of the first things I did, well before the days of Sideshow.

you can still get them from amazing figure modeler... Do you not do your own molds? its safer for me. that looks like it could have been a 1 part mold...one day i will paint it. mine is cast in white resin, looks like smooth cast 300? sux you didn't get a return on it. Thats why i stopped doing kits. I started doing 1:1 when i was your age and started casting myself...Alright you Handsome son-of-a lady who im sure is really nice...i gotta run.

I do my own molding now. At the time I was too green to know how to do molds. I MUCH prefer doing it myself, as it always seems to be an x factor when you hire someone to do it. I had no idea that piece was still available. I'm happy that it is, and I really don't care that I'm not seeing anything from it, it's an unlicensed piece, it was just a stepping stone for me. These days the best thing I can do as a 'business' on the side is 1/6 scale portraits for figures. I prefer full statues, but most people just want the heads from me so they can build figures.

That 1:1 stuff seems hard as hell! :D I really respect you guys that do that, and to do it on a deadline is madness. You're troopers. I'll eventually do some 1:1 stuff, but I would prefer doing rough bronze stuff. I just think I'd have more fun, and it would be so unlike the work I do for Sideshow and so forth. Capturing a likeness in the rough would really lend to some subjects.

Talk to you later!

well you have the ability...it's just a matter of sizing. I think you'll do fine. Try cold cast 1st...that way you still get the look and whatnot but it's a fraction of the cost. then if you like the way it looks you can give them the arm and leg to make the bronze... Cold cast is simple. resin, bronze powder and pigment...thats it. I can message you on how i do my 1:1 if you want. how i measure and template and so forth..even how to do the acryllic eyes (realizing the pupils arent centered was a mind blower for me..that and the fact that eyes only come in 3 basic sizes)or you can call me and ill call Tim and we can all have a chat over tea...OMG MY TOXIC WAX IS HERE! Going to play now.
