Ben Kenobi Desert Nomad 001 by TrevorGrove Ben Kenobi Desert Nomad 001 by TrevorGrove
Part of the Star Wars Mythos line of statues from Sideshow Collectibles [link]

This 1:5 scale statue was sculpted nearly two nears ago, now. Designed by Joe Allard and Tom Gilliland, this piece is meant to represent Obi-Wan in the years before "A New Hope", but after "Revenge of the Sith". This gave us an opportunity to imagine the life of Kenobi as he became the reclusive, mystical figure of Tatooine.

It also allowed us to have fun imagining both Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness as the character, but at different ages than we have seen them in the films.

The statue was sculpted in castiline and wax, with a sculpey base. Some of the lightsabers were sculpted by hand, and Tusken Raider weapons were output from digial models (which is why they look clear).

Many more photos can be found in my gallery

This would be literally the best thing ever, except it acknowledges that the prequels exist.

just stunning stuff. I much prefer seeing pieces like this before their paint jobs, I find them more compelling for some reason. How do you go about making moulds of something like this?
Beautiful work.

So many superlatives have been said already ... every one one so truly deserved ... I don't know what to add, except to say that this is quite possibly one of the coolest and most compelling pieces that I have ever seen. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then this sculpture easily tells an entire trilogy.

Thanks Tim! I know you know how crazy difficult some of these statues end up being! :D I wore a callous into my thumb from holding the heavy robe piece for days on end. hah!

Projects that are this complex can be so rewarding and yet nearly crippling. I tend to overthink things. Get neurotic about pieces that have been on my desk too long. Lose objectivity.

This is really superb, Trev, can't wait to see what you've got cooking next.

Thanks! I agree, it's fun to imagine the pockets of time we've never seen. Star Wars works best when we're allowed to imagine, rather than when we're shown.

This is gorgeous! You've caught and merged their body language and features beautifully. The fraying, tattered, furs and fabrics along with the scuffing and wear shown on the rest of his equipment really moves him into the desired scruffy, but always elegant in motion, reclusive, mystical figure of Tatooine. Very, very, well done.

Thank you so much! It means a lot to me that you appreciate it. Sideshow really wanted to load him up with lots of detailed utilities and ephemera, and it was a job trying to pull it off (mostly because the piece was so heavy....the legs kept breaking, regardless of support rods, as I had to dismantle him all of the time to work on the details.

Thanks again! I really appreciate it. This is my favorite piece I've gotten to do with Sideshow.
